This bespoke Paragraph 80 private residence in Northumberland draws its design concept from the numerous bell pits uncovered during our site analysis.

Bell pits historically served to extract minerals. Builders dug a vertical shaft and expanded the base outward in a circular form. In cross section, this shape resembles a bell.

Our design introduces an additional bell pit, circular in plan, which we partially reveal by peeling back earth on the southern and eastern sides of the site.

The green roof wraps the structure and steps down in an organic form. This approach keeps the building visually discreet from the north, east, and west elevations, responding to the surrounding context. It also symbolises the gradual erosion of the bell pit over time.
