Places of worship, whether former or remaining, sit at the heart of our communities and carry deep cultural and heritage value. At GRADONARCHITECTURE, we treat this work as both a privilege and a responsibility.
We respect the history of places of worship while striving to ensure they stay relevant and accessible in the modern world. Our experience includes sensitive renovations, adaptive reuse, and creative interventions that support modern needs.
Working with current places of worship, our work for regional Methodist, Anglican and United Reformed circuits has deepened our understanding of the current challenges that many congregations face. We undertake quinquennial inspections to identify building performance issues and plan programmes of remedial work. Many churches are not accessible to users with reduced mobility and cannot accommodate wider community use due to inflexible spaces. We work to address the challenges presented in each project, allowing congregations to adapt and access new opportunities
Working with former places of worship, we seek to repurpose the building into a suitable use, retaining it as a valued community landmark and asset, albeit with a new function to safeguard its future within the community.
