Silecroft beach sits in the southwest corner of the Lake District National Park. Black Combe fell overlooks the beach to the north. The site offers spectacular views across the Irish Sea towards the Isle of Man. The project brief outlined a vision for a new beach café. The aim is to make it Cumbria’s premier beach destination. It should offer a world-class visitor experience and a quality amenity for local communities.

The design concept meets these objectives by creating a visitor centre and beach café. The building serves visitors and locals while connecting to the natural landscape. We created framed views as a key design feature. To the north, the design draws attention to Black Combe. To the west, a viewing panel highlights the Irish Sea and the Isle of Man. To the east, the views embrace the site’s natural topography. Each viewpoint links the building to its surroundings.

The design creates a hub of regenerative facilities for the area. The main café serves as the primary visitor space. The scheme also includes a kitchen, accessible WCs, an external shower area, and storage for all-weather outdoor equipment. An outdoor seating area completes the facility.
