A huge congratulations to Kayleigh, whose outstanding work was exhibited at the Degree Show at Northumbria University last night and was recognised with the Faulkner Browns – DA Project of the Year Award.

This award is a fantastic recognition of the quality, creativity and dedication that Kayleigh has demonstrated throughout her studies, and is a testament to the hard work she has put into her project.

Kayleigh’s project seeks to address increased levels of loneliness in old age by providing fully accessible dwellings embedded within a vibrant community. Arranged in four ‘U’ shaped courtyards open towards the river, the development reconnects Wylam with the Tyne, encouraging sustainable use of the river while protecting and enhancing existing habitats. The building form is stepped back on higher levels to provide each resident with private external space, overlooking activity in the courtyard and promoting a closer connection to their community.

The Degree Show marks the end of Kayleigh’s third year on the Architect Degree Apprenticeship programme. She now moves into her forth and final year, where she will undertake her Part 3 qualification and take the final step towards becoming a fully qualified architect.

Winning Project of the Year is an incredible achievement, and we couldn’t be more proud. A massive well done, Kayleigh – amazing work as always!
