We are so proud of Olivia, who exhibited her design work at the Northumbria University degree show last night.

For her final design project, Olivia designed and detailed a new accessible visitor centre and overnight accommodation in Hamsterley Forest. She prioritised sustainability. She used rammed earth as the main structure. She also adopted a zero-waste approach to felled timber. She used every part of the tree as fuel, compost, construction material, furniture, or craft.

By maximising the forest’s natural resources, the scheme reduces waste. It also supports a circular economy. It creates opportunities for education, tourism and local enterprise. These are all rooted in the forest’s identity.

The degree show marks the end of Olivia’s third year on the architect degree apprenticeship. She now moves into her fourth and final year. She will complete her Part 3 qualification. She will become a fully qualified architect.

Great work as always, Olivia.
