A development in excess of 250 affordable housing units located on the former Bates Colliery in Blyth. The overall design philosophy utilises efficient family dwellings and generates a development which has an individual feel and character befitting of the area with continuity throughout. The arrangement that evolved is a series of clusters, each having differing characters to encourage individualism, a sense of place and ownership. The architectural style is generated from a desire to create high quality low cost dwellings that have individual character. The design approach creates variation using a simple pallet of materials to invigorate the streetscenes.
